Monday the 7th – HAPPY LABOR DAY! – It was great relaxing on Labor Day. It wasn’t too hot, so I went over to my friend Fred Westbrook’s house and we hung out by the pool with some friends. That night I did some auditions in my home studio and e-mailed them off to my agents. Time to get ready for a new week!
Tuesday the 8th – WESTSIDE DAY 1 – I headed over to West L.A. in the morning to do some business. First I went to Laser Blazer to see about getting some new DVDs. I bought “Big Trouble in Little China,” “Creepshow” and “Princess Bride” on Blu Ray, and I also bought “Mad Monster Party” on standard def DVD. After that I went to my dentist Dr. Bruce King to have a crown taken off. When I had a root canal recently, the crown that they put on wasn’t big enough, so there wasn’t substantial contact between the crown and the teeth next to it. The gap that resulted caused a lot of pain. So it was necessary to take the crown off, have it sent to the lab and have some porcelain added to it, and then put back on. I got a temp crown for awhile until the real crown comes back from the lab. I stopped by It’s a Wrap and saw my friend Jennifer there, one of the employees. She said there were lots of great clothes being sold that Friday as a part of their Halloween sale. Then I went over to the Regenix offices to buy some more hair care products. That night I relaxed around the house.
Wednesday the 9th – WESTSIDE DAY 2! – When I got up I had to do a quick audition for my agent. She had called and left an urgent message while I slept that it had to be done before I drove over to my first voice-over session of the day. I did the audition and sent it in, and then headed over to Lime Studios in Santa Monica. I will be doing the pirate voice for the new Matchbox toy the Mega Rig Pirate Playset. It looks cool, and we had a lot of fun doing it. Then I drove to get lunch at the local Arby’s, and then hit the studio called The Mix. I worked for four hours doing voicework for a new videogame featuring the characters Motochika and Mitsunari. I had done the characters in several previous videogames, but this time they had a LOT to say. Even though we worked a full four hours, we still need to do more at a later date to finish. By the time we finished, I was pretty exhausted. Long day, but a fruitful one! That night I caught a nap, and then got up and did some auditions in my home studio.
Thursday the 10th – FAREWELL FELLOW HEROES! – In the morning I headed over to Carroll Casting to read an audition for my pal Carroll Kimball. She’s terrific and one of my favorite voice-over casting people. It was for a Mini-Cooper audition. Then I headed back to NBC for another stab at the announcer for the new “Jay Leno Show.” Since they would be launching on the 14th, I think they wanted to hear me one last time before they made a final decision. I was happy to go over and read for them again. Liz the director, Scott the producer and Patrick the audio engineer are all super nice people, so it’s always nice to see them. I got a quick lunch and then got over to Studiopolis Burbank to do the final episode in the first season of “Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.” It was great to do one last session for awhile with the gang. Clancy Brown, a great actor, was there to provide the voice for Odin. My pals Chris and Rick were there doing Hawkeye and Thor respectively, and James was there to supply the voice of the Black Panther. Colleen, who plays my wife Janet, was there for a little while so we could do our scenes together. Graham was there putting in a stellar performance as Loki, Thor’s half-brother and Odin’s adopted son. Listening to Rick, Graham and Clancy do their scenes together was amazing! I can’t wait to see this show! We all said our farewells as we wrapped up the first season, but we did it with a smile. We got the news that “Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” would be returning for a second season! In January or so we’ll be recording the new episodes. TOO COOL! That was great news. Like the previous day, I was exhausted. So I went home to relax. Unfortunately, my AC in Planet Wallywood was malfunctioning again, so I hooked up my portable AC unit in my bedroom and stayed there with Sassie and Spooky to “chill out,” as it were.
Friday the 11th – NEVER FORGET! – As I personally and privately reflected on the 8th anniversary of the 9-11 tragedy, I went about my day. First I went to It’s a Wrap in Burbank to see what stuff they had for their Halloween sale. I had been counting down the days for awhile, and 10am was the opening. I met my friends Ginny, Julie, Justin and Bob there. I landed a really cool buckskin leather shirt with fringe, and a great Indian beadwork leather coat. Ginny and I headed over to 20th Century Props to look in on their going-out-of-business sale. I found a few things that were interesting but was running out of time. It would have taken a whole day to look through that place! Ginny and I went to Voice Trax West so I could do another session for HH Gregg. We had lunch next door at Chin Chin and I got a call from Paul, my AC guy. He was up on the roof of my house fixing the unit as we spoke. By the time I got back home, it was blowing cold again. Come to find out my AC had blown a capacitor. In the nice cool house, I caught a quick nap, and that night had dinner with my friend Michelle, Scott and Vickie Sebring at Miceli’s in Universal City.
Saturday the 12th – PET BLESSING! – I went over to the Toluca Lake Methodist Church to look in on their Pet Blessing ceremony. There were all sorts of dogs there getting blessed by Pastor Cathy, their minister. I had always wanted to do one of these at the church I’m involved with, so I figured I could pick up some pointers. My friend Kassandra and her dog Acara came along so he could be blessed. It was great fun with tons of cool doggies, and even some cats. There was a cat adoption going on as well. Then I grabbed lunch at KFC, met my friend Ginny at my house and ate lunch. Then we went to Studiopolis Burbank to work with engineer Eric Lewis to continue teaching Ginny how to do ADR dubbing for anime. She’s getting darn good! Then I got home to prepare for Blu Saturday, watching Blu Ray movies with my friends every Saturday. Scott and Vickie got over early, but I was pretty tired. So I caught a nap for about a half hour before the rest of the gang showed up. By the time everybody was there, I was awake and feeling refreshed. We watched “Big Trouble in Little China”, which I had forgotten was so good. Since it has an Asian flair, I started thinking about the amazing “Kung Fu Hustle,” which is part kung fu movie and part Tex Avery cartoon. It’s more amazing everytime I see it. We laughed ourselves silly. But by the end of the second film, we were all pretty wiped. So I bid everyone farewell, and got ready for bed. I was starting my new “Hawaii Five-O” season 1 DVD that night, so I made dinner and watched the first part of the pilot in bed. I even enjoyed some pineapple to get into the Hawaiian spirit!
Sunday the 13th – ZZZZZZ! – I had no trouble sleeping until 4pm! It was a VERY busy week. I got up in time for evening church and boy was I glad! It’s was the 10th anniversary of the evening service and it was rockin’! When I was finished I got some groceries, then met my pal Sara at Jerry’s Famous Deli for dinner. I got home, did some auditions, and prepared for a big week to come.
And how was YOUR week??!!
