My third favorite Christmas song, right behind “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams (#1) and “Step Into Christmas” by Elton John (#2), is George Michael’s “Last Christmas.” Fact is, last Christmas I had laryngitis so bad that I couldn’t sing along with any Christmas songs and it sucked! Particularly hurtful was the fact that I couldn’t sing along to this song and hit all those high notes. But I’m making up for it THIS Christmas!
Monday the 13th – ELF HELP GROUP! – I was up early again and headed to Santa Monica to do another spot for Old Navy. This session would probably be the last one for the year before the Christmas/New Year’s break. So I bid everyone a Happy New Year after the session and went on my way. I got some lunch at Arby’s and headed over to Regenix in Beverly Hills. It was time for another follow-up appointment to see how my hair was doing under their treatment. Everything looked good and the technician there just said we’re waiting for “turnover”…for those old thin hairs to fall out and be replaced by new thicker hairs. I got a call that I needed to be at ‘The Tonight Show’ right after my appointment, so I sped over to NBC and did a quick VO. Then I went over to my bank and deposited some checks and spoke with one of the investment clerks there about some ideas I had. Then it was time to go to the taping of “TTS.” During the taping I was called to one of the writer’s offices so he could show me an animation he was working on. They were working on a bit where Jay would interview an animated elf and we discussed a few possibilities for voices for him. Once we settled on one we liked, I made a point to go back to the office after the taping and do a run through with a few of the other writers, including the head writer! It was an awesome meeting, getting to sit in and watch the entire process of how this sketch was created. I was sitting in an office with 3 of the funniest guys in town! In fact, they liked an ad-lib that I did so much they decided to keep it in! That night I went home, had a quick bite with my friend Brittney, and then I took Christmas nappys. That’s what I call it when talking to my pets…but it’s basically napping on the couch in front of the fire, with Christmas music playing quietly on the satellite and getting wrapped in a fuzzy blanket (my cat’s FAVORITE blanket!) Later that night I did some auditions in my home studio and e-mailed them to my agents.
Tuesday the 14th – HEY HEY HH! – Just before the holidaze the folks who do the commercials for HH Gregg decided to slide in one more commercial. So I headed over to Voice Trax West just after lunch and did a quick session. It was an absolutely beautiful day. In fact, it was so nice that I figured I’d ride my bike to “TTS”, something I hadn’t done in awhile. The bike ride went great, and I made sure to bundle up on my way home, as the sun was going down earlier now, and it was getting a little chillier. I got home and indulged in some more Christmas nappys, then got up to do some auditions in my home studio, e-mail them to my agents, and I snuck off to Denny’s to get some late-night take-out food! YUM!
Wednesday the 15th – HOLIDAY SLOOOOOWDOWN! – Not much going on today, since the holiday slowdown was already in full swing. So I took the opportunity to make some phone calls and, as Elvis would say, Take Care of Business! I went over to do the taping of “TTS” and they had me record a few more lines for the angry elf animation, which would air on Thursday night’s show! I was getting excited to see it! That evening my friend Edi and I enjoyed dinner.
Thursday the 16th – JEFFREY THE ANGRY ELF! – I got called in early to NBC to do another line for the Angry Elf animation. I got so carried away with the fun of the whole process, that I totally forgot about the carpet cleaners that were coming to my house! So I made a frantic call to their office to reschedule. Thankfully they hadn’t left for my house yet. WHEW! I went to a Smog Check Station by NBC and got my Mustang smogged. My registration is due in a few months so I wanted to get that taken care of and out of the way. The guy at the SCS said I could go to AAA and get my new stickers there, so I wouldn’t’ have to wait for the mail. I thought that sounded like a good idea. So I spent the rest of the afternoon having lunch with my friend Sara at Olive Garden, checking out Target and Best Buy for gift ideas, and then going over to AAA to get my new stickers. Unfortunately, it was too far in advance to get my stickers. Apparently near-bankrupt California didn’t want my money yet. How strange! So I either have to mail it in, or go back to AAA in February and get them then. I got back to NBC just in time for the taping of “TTS” and the Jeffrey the Angry Elf bit went really well. In fact, you can see it here…
https://www.nbc.com/the-tonight-show/video/thursday-december-16-2010/1265662/?__source=recent-eps-module but you have to go 11:25 in to see it. That evening I gave my friend Brittney her Christmas present, a one hour massage from my masseuse Miriam. I had a headache for a day now and I wasn’t sure why. She thought it might be related to being too tense. After my massage I went out to take a dip in the jacuzzi. Then it was more Christmas nappys. When I got up I spent the entire night working on my new voice-over demos for 2011.
Friday the 17th – OUCH! – The carpet cleaners showed up about an hour earlier than they were supposed to, and luckily I heard the doorbell ring, because I was sound asleep. They cleaned the carpet very well and headed out the door. I got ready and headed to my chiropractor’s office for my bi-weekly visit. I still had a bit of a headache and was going to ask him about it. As I was sitting in the waiting room I saw a slide come up on the monitor that mentioned how sleeping on a couch can mess up your neck. A-HA! My Christmas nappys had screwed me up! My doctor confirmed it, that the right top side of my head was aching because of sleeping wrong on the couch. He knew exactly where it hurt and put his finger on a spot on the back of my neck that hurt like hell! That was the culprit. So he bent me around, snapped me a few times, and put a huge massager on my neck and back. Hopefully that will do the trick! And next time…2 pillows under my head for Christmas nappys! That evening my friend Edi and her son Josh, and my pal Sara and I went to Panera for a bite to eat. Then I got some groceries and headed home to plan the weekend! It had started to sprinkle, and the outlook for the entire weekend was heavy rain! Awesome!
Saturday the 18th- SLEEP-IN SATURDAY! – Since I was up all night Friday night enjoying old TV shows on DVD and listening to it rain, I decided to sleep in and let Sara run some errands for me. Sassie needed some new pills and I had a lot of mail to get at my box. One of the packages was Edi’s Marilyn Monroe sweater, a sweater that’s an exact replica of the one Marilyn wore in those famous photos. Edi’s a big Marilyn fan so she will love it. I called her to come over right away. It was the perfect day to put on a big, bulky sweater too! Cold, overcast, rainy…and when she saw the sweater she was so taken with it she cried. I was glad she enjoyed it. I opened up a few more of my packages, and then hit the hay again. I was still tired. I got up in time for movie night that night with friends. We watched “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” on Blu Ray as well as “Beauty and the Beast” on Blu Ray, followed by another episode of “Twin Peaks.” What fun to have friends and food in front of the fire on a rainy night!
Sunday the 19th – HEY, I COULD GET USED TO THIS! – Once again I stayed up all night, and slept most of the day. I got up in time for evening church, and then went to dinner with Sara at DuPar’s. When it’s cold and rainy, DuPar’s offers the greatest comfort food…grilled cheese sandwiches, soup, French fries, etc. When I got finished at dinner I went to visit my friend Kristy who was leaving for an extended period to visit family on Monday. She had just been in the hospital for a few days recently and I wanted to check in on her. The rest of the evening I spent doing auditions, writing Wally’s Week, and then Sara came over to have a late dinner and watch old episodes of “Hawaii Five O” on DVD!
And how was YOUR week?!?!!
