This past week on “The Tonight Show” Rickey Minor and the Tonight Show band played an awesome version of “Hey Ya” by Outkast. Since then it’s been on my mind all week. But the strangest thing was, last Saturday I was doing errands and humming the song non-stop. When I got to my Vet’s office I focused in on the radio station that was playing in the lobby… and sure enough it was “HEY YA!” How strange is that? Of all the songs in the world, how was it that the very song on my mind was playing on the speakers? Here it is, so you can have it stuck in your head too!
Monday the 9th – MERRY MONDAY! – I took advantage of the mild summer weather and biked to “The Tonight Show.” I was able to get some relatives of Chuck McCann’s into the taping at the last minute. Normally during the summer, the guest list fills up pretty quickly, sometimes a week in advance. But today I was able to get them in. On my way home I stopped at a frozen yogurt place to get a snack and Chuck called and asked where I was. We arranged to meet at my house to show his guests Planet Wallywood. They really enjoyed the tour, and Chuck asked me to join them for dinner. Trouble was, I already had dinner plans with my pal Kelli. I asked her if she would like to join them and we agreed that it would be best to postpone until another time. So I met up with Chuck and his wife Betty, his relatives and my friend Sara for a great meal at Chin Chin. Afterwards we all went to get frozen yogurt for dessert. It was a great evening and really fun meeting Chuck’s relatives!
Tuesday the 10th – MILES AND MILES AND SMILES! – I went to Regenix again to see how my hair was doing. The associate there said everything looked really great…my follicles were looking clean, the bulbs on the ends of my hairs were looking fat, and all is good. But it takes time for all the thin hairs to fall out and be replaced by the new thick hairs. I’ve been on the program for almost three years, and I think by five years it should be really great! When I got home I went to my complex’s office and got a new pool key. The other one I got didn’t work, as it was cut wrong. But this one worked fine so I can finally take a dip in the pool from time to time. I stopped at my mailbox and ran into Bobby Burgess, from the Mickey Mouse club. When he was dancing on “The Lawrence Welk Show” my grandma was a big fan. I had him call her on her 98th birthday a month or so ago and she was elated. I told him how much she loved hearing from him. I gave him his signed pic from Jay Leno, and the inscription read, “To Bobby. You da man! Jay Leno” Bobby couldn’t read his writing very well and he said, “You DO men?” I told him that it was “DA man” and not “DO MEN!” Bobby laughed and said, “Just because I’m a dancer…” It was very funny and Bobby’s a great guy! Then I headed over to Kalmenson and Kalmenson for a quick audition before “TTS.” After the taping I stopped by the post office and dropped off some signed postcards for fans who have e-mailed me for them. Then I headed home, grabbed a nap, and stayed up very late goofing around the house!
Wednesday the 11th – THE DAY OF “NO!” – My agent called in the morning on my bedroom hotline, woke me up and told me “TTS” needed me at 1pm for a quick voice-over for a comedy bit. So I dropped an e-mail to my lunch appointment to let him know I might be a little later than our agreed-upon 1:30 lunch. It was Bob Bergen, the voice of Porky Pig and other characters. He wanted to buy me a “thank you” lunch for getting he and his friends in to the taping of “TTS” a few weeks ago. As I was pulling into NBC, I got a call from Dave in the “TTS” office saying that they wouldn’t need me after all. The comedy bit got changed a little and the vo would not be needed in it. Oh well, I turned around and headed to Jerry’s Famous Deli to meet with Bob. As I was just pulling in to their parking lot, Bob called my cell phone and said he got a last minute voice session and he’d have to postpone. So, a second misfire that day. Oh well…it happens. I stopped at the craft store and picked up a few things I could use on my new metallic panels that I’ll be installing on my wall behind my Darth Vader display. I had to get back to NBC for an early taping of “TTS” so I headed back over there and did the show. When I got home my webmaster Scott Sebring came over to photograph more of my house for the new Planet Wallywood webpage on this website. After a quick dinner at Jerry’s Famous Deli (I was still craving it from missing it earlier in the day) we got down to business and shot a lot of great photos. But we didn’t wrap until really late, and I had to be up early for another session the next day.
Thursday the 12th – THURSDAY ERRANDS! – I was at Warner Brothers studios early in the morning to work on a new videogame (can’t tell you which one) and then I headed over to Voicecasters for a quick audition for Domino’s I dropped by my bank and deposited some checks, and then over to It’s a Wrap to do some shopping. I found a few shirts and a couple pair of jeans. I went over to Roundtable Pizza and grabbed a pizza to go and headed home. I put my biking gear on and bicycled over to NBC for the taping of “TTS.” I made it in a mere 18 minutes…my second best time so far! That evening my friend Brittney Powell came over to audition for a voice-over gig.
Friday the 13th – BAD LUCK? GOOD LUCK! – I got up bright and early and headed over to JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratories) in Pasadena. I got hired for a quick voice over job there, and it was an amazing place. When we finished the session my escort took me through their exhibits of scale models of some famous spacecraft. But the thing that floored me was seeing the actual camera from the Hubble telescope. If you have seen some of the amazing photos from the deepest, darkest reaches of space…THIS is the camera! It was complete with dings and dents from being hit by space debris. It gave me a chill to stand there and see this piece of technological history! It was on its way to the Smithsonian the following week, so I’m glad I got to see it. I drove to my next appointment, an audition for an animated pilot. Then I drove over to NBC, as I got a call from my agent asking me to drop by for a quick VO for a comedy bit. I got home, changed into my bike gear, had something to eat, and then biked over to NBC. The taping went really well, and everyone took off to enjoy a 2 week hiatus. We’ll be back at it August 30th with new shows, but until then they’ll run reruns. That evening my friend Brittney came over again to record another audition, and then I took a nap. When I got up that night I got a call from my friend Fred Westbrook who said he and Chuck McCann were at DuPar’s having dinner. So I went over to meet them and hang out. I took my new books from My Publisher.com to show Fred and Chuck. I’m addicted to making these hardcover books and already have ordered about 10 of them! They’re amazing! Overall a good day, not unlucky at all!
Saturday the 14th – SMOOTH SUMMERY SATURDAY! – I got up in time to check my mailbox and sure enough, a few more of my hardcover books from My Publisher came in. Then I went to the craft store and bought some more little clear, round caps to put on my metallic panels for my Darth Vader display. I went home and started gluing them on to the panels and they looked great. I glued them over these black circle areas, and it now looks like an electric eye, or camera lens. Very high-tech looking. I think being at JPL may have given me the idea to do this. While I was working my dog Sassie’s trainer Cathy and her friend Steve came by to see Sassie. Cathy hadn’t seen Sassie in a long time, but you know what? Sassie completely remembered her! We had a nice visit and it was good to see them again. I spent some more time making another photo book on-line, and then my guests started showing up for Saturday night movie night. We watched two more episodes of “The Prisoner” on Blu Ray (from the 60’s), and then watched “Jason and the Argonauts” on Blu Ray as well. After everyone left I continued to watch the Making Of on the disc and went back to working on my photo book on-line. By the time I looked up at the clock, it was 5AM!! I made some spaghetti and headed to bed to watch “Hawaii Five-O” on DVD and go to sleep!
Sunday the 15th – SUMMER SUNDAY! – Our mild weather was over. It was starting to get hotter. Rats! I slept in until late in the afternoon, but I got up in time for evening church. When the service was over I went to get groceries. Then I met up with some friends at Ernie’s Taco House for some Mexican food, and then I headed back home to meet up with Sara and some friends from out of town to show them Planet Wallywood. We had a good time sitting around and visiting. Then I did about 15 auditions in my home studio, e-mailed them to my agents, wrote Wally’s Week and got ready to start a new week, and enjoy my first week of hiatus from “TTS.” It’s fun to have time off, but I love the job so much I really can’t wait to get back to it!
And how was YOUR week??!!.
