Monday the 22nd – MARVELOUS MONDAY! – It was a pretty relaxed day, but I did manage to get over to see my pal Carroll Day Kimball at Carroll Casting. I read for a Chevron radio spot and a Red Lobster radio spot. First up was the Chevron spot. It went fairly well, and then Carroll gave me the script for the Red Lobster spot. I had just gotten up about an hour before and my eyes were still a little foggy. But the type was a really small font in italics and I was having trouble seeing it. ACK! Do I need reading glasses? I’ve been resisting for a long time, but perhaps it was time. I kept blowing the lines cuz I just couldn’t read that small type. I apologized to Carroll for taking up so much time. I felt like a jerk. But in her infinite grace and charm, she said it was no problem. I went home to take care of some stuff around the house.
Tuesday the 23rd – MONSTERS & HOT RODS! – In the afternoon I went over to visit my friend Sara on the set of the new monster movie she’s shooting. The sets looked amazing, and the shots I saw of the monsters looked equally impressive. At this point it’s all secrety secrety, but stay tuned. I’ll have more info on it as it nears release. I went over to Voicecaster later in the afternoon to audition for a radio spot for Target. I gotta tell ya…in this biz, you have to be ready for anything. This involved duet singing, so they paired us up. Luckily, I was able to read with my friend Melissa Disney, an accomplished vo artist and singer. Together, we created melodies for the lines we had to sing, as we weren’t given any melodies from the producer. It’s good to be able to do that on the fly. The audition went well. We even got to read with my old friend Daran Norris, who used to be another one of the Beetlejuices at Universal with me. Daran and I noted that we’ve known each other for about 16 years. Amazing! When I got home, I got a call from my agent that I had booked the gig for Red Lobster! So much for reading glasses! I did a little session for them in my home studio and e-mailed it over to them. The ad agency who’s handling the account is the same one I worked for when doing all of the Hyundai spots a few years back. They’re great people!! Then I got ready for a premiere party and went to pick up my friend Kassandra. We got to the premiere party at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood just in time. The film is called “Raptor; Born in Baja.” It’s produced by a company I do voice-over for from time to time. The film was great and the party afterwards was wonderful too. What a fun day!
Wednesday the 24th – WHEW! – It was a nice, relaxing Wednesday. I spent some time doing things around the house, and in the evening I went to church for the meditational service.
Thursday the 25th – NON-STOP BE-BOP! – I was up early to do another session for Red Lobster in my home studio. I get directed from the producers over the phone, while I’m laying down the voice tracks in my studio. Then when the session’s over, I cut up the tracks and edit them nice and neat, and e-mail them to the producers to edit into the spots. As I got in my car to leave for the next session, I heard the sad news about Farrah Fawcett’s passing. TOO SAD! Then I went to Voicecasters to do the session for Target I auditioned for a few days earlier. And wouldn’t you know it…Melissa Disney booked it as well! GREAT! We also needed to write a few new melodies for the revised lines they gave us. In fact, the producers were enjoying it so much, they had us write a melody for the Target tag line. What fun! Our agent Beau was there at the session as well. It went VERY well, and it’s fun to write melodies on the fly like that. Later I went to It’s a Wrap and bought a couple of really nice shirts. Then I went to the bank to make some deposits. It was time for me to get over to the “Blue Dragon” session at Studiopolis Burbank. Halfway through the session, Susie the engineer told us that she read on the internet that Michael Jackson had just suffered cardiac arrest. Then my friend Sara texted me to tell me that he had died! It took about a half hour to get confirmation from the on-line news agencies that he had indeed died. It was a strange afternoon. When I finished, I met up with my friend Emily to discuss a contract for an upcoming convention she wanted me to appear at. We ate at Studio Cafe on the patio and discussed the con. That evening I took a nap, and then got up and jogged 3 miles. It felt great. It was a really perfect run…I paced myself perfectly, and there was no problems with my ankles or knees. FUN!
Friday the 26th – THE WEEKEND! – I met some friends for lunch at Miceli’s next to Universal Studios. One of the guys was thinking about trying to get into voice-over and I was giving him the reality of the situation. He had lots of acting experience, but there were certain things about the vo biz that he needed training for. I always recommend that people enter a field armed with the most training and information they can get. It will help them compete better against the tough competition. Then I headed home and did some auditions to e-mail to my agents. That night I continued sculpting on the robot hands for my Andy Kaufman “Heartbeeps” mannequin. They were turning out pretty well, if I do say so myself! Keep track of the latest progress on my Andy Kaufman displays here…

Saturday the 27th – OH NO! – My maids were supposed to come at noon, but I slept until 1:30 and didn’t hear the doorbell! Luckily they were able to send out another crew later in the afternoon so I was able to get Planet Wallywood cleaned. Then I went to my friend Fred’s to hang out by the pool. It was beastly hot, so we waited until later in the afternoon to go visit. It was a blast hanging out by the pool. That night it was more “Star Trek” episodes at Planet Wallywood on our regular Blu Ray Trek night.
Sunday the 28th – PLEASANT VALLEY SUNDAY! – The heatwave had started to subside a bit, and it was a lovely day. I slept late again, but managed to make it to evening church. My friend Lindsey from Voicecasters came to visit the church, so we went out to eat afterwards. We were joined by my friends Sara, Mechelle and Kassandra. I was the only guy at our table! I felt like Hef! Later that night I took a brief nap, and then was up all night sanding and completing the robot hands.
And how was YOUR week!!!??
