But that wasn’t the case at all, thankfully! I was up and at ‘em at 9am and headed to Bang Zoom studios in Burbank to do another 3 hour “secret” session for the project I’ve been working on for about 2 years now. The session went very well (it’s amazing what two days of rest will do for you!) and when it was over I headed over to the gas station to fuel up the Mustang. Then I was due at Buzzy’s Recording in Hollywood at 2 for a videogame session. After a quick stop at Wendy’s to get some lunch at the drive-thru, I headed over to Buzzy’s to get situated. I haven’t been to Buzzy’s since we wrapped “The Garfield Show” a few years ago, and it sure was good to see Alana, Andy, George and Brian again! The studio is undergoing a complete remodel and it’s going to be awesome when it’s all finished! Though I was booked for 3 hours, we finished the session in about 1.5 hours. Then I was on my way home to relax! I spoke with Cathy, the scheduler at my ENT Dr.’s office, and she was going to investigate possible surgery days and get back to me. I’m VERY anxious to get this sinus fixed and cleaned out to return to my old self! I drove home and then relaxed. I saw the photos from the past weekend’s big birthday party. My assistant Sara came over to pick up a few things, and then I did a few auditions. I wrote Wally’s Week, and grabbed a nap. I got up later to work on a personal design project with photos and graphics. I fed and walked Roxy, organized my computer’s photo folders, made soup and a sandwich and watched two episodes of “The Monkees” before bed.

Tuesday the 9th – I GOT A DATE! – Boy did it feel good to sleep in until 2 in the afternoon! I got a call from my ENT Dr.’s scheduler and she said the magic date is Friday May 19th! It’ll be a long week and a half, but I’m SO anxious to get this over with! I thought maybe I’d head to Palm Springs on Memorial Day weekend, but that’s less than a week from my surgery, so I’m going to play it safe and stay home. But I sure would like to get back to Palm Springs after this is all over with and TRULY enjoy a carefree vacation! I did a few auditions, a last minute session for American Airlines in my home studio, and then sped off to the post office to mail some things. I stopped at the bank to wire some money to a friend, and then went over to North Hollywood Sound in Burbank to do a quick session for a videogame. Since it was Tuesday, and since I was in the Burbank area, I met Sara at Lancers to enjoy their amazing beef barley soup (served only on Tuedays!). I got home and grabbed a nap, and then got up later to do some more work on my photo folders, finally organizing them in a usable and logical fashion. I fed and walked Roxy, and then I did a few more auditions and started getting hungry for hot dogs. But I was out of buns! So I went to my local 7-11 around 3am to get some, but they didn’t sell hot dog buns. SINCE WHEN? So I had to go to one of the big 24 hour grocery store to get them. Hey, when you’re craving, you’re craving! I fired up the grill and cooked some hot dogs and then watched two more “Monkees” episodes on Blu Ray. Roxy and I ushered in her 9th birthday!

Wednesday the 10th – A ROCKIN’ ROXY B-DAY! – Today marked my dog Roxy’s 9th birthday. I slept until 3 and got up to do a few auditions. I had planned on going to eat lunch with Roxy, but I got busy. By the time I was clear, it had turned too cool to eat with Roxy at a restaurant outside. But I did give her some birthday beef that I had left over from my dinner at Lancers the previous night! I picked up my “adopted grandma” Shirley and headed to Barones to get dinner. On the way 1260 LA Oldies played “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” the song that brought down the house at Shirley’s 90th birthday party! Of all the weird coincidences. (But then again I don’t really believe in coincidences!) Sara joined us for dinner and we had an awesome dinner. But my sinuses were killing me so I went home and took a much-needed nap. I got up later and since all of my auditions had already been done earlier in the day, I had the evening to myself to goof around with Roxy and Spooky. I fed Roxy and took her on a nice leisurely late night stroll through the neighborhood. I came inside, heated up my leftover Barone’s pizza and watched the final 2 episodes of “The Monkees.” They were…um…very weird. It still puzzles me why the second season episodes were so noticeably inferior to the first season episodes.

Thursday the 11th – PIL-LOW RIDER! – My pal Jim Ojala came over just after 2 so I could settle up with him on what I owed him for the big joint birthday party we had last Saturday. He and his wife Beth did a terrific job putting the whole thing together. It was an unforgettable time! I sped off to Nickelodeon in Burbank to deliver some custom-made Hey Arnold pillows to members of the production staff as a “thank you” for including me in the cast of the new movie. I ran into my pal Justin Brinsfield, award winning audio engineer, while I was there, and spoke with Casting Associate Roxanne Escatael for a bit. She flipped when she saw the pillows, so I think I’ll be calling the Palm Springs Pillow Lady to see if she can squeeze out a few more from the leftover fabric I have. I went over to Bang Zoom to do the final “secret” session for this run of sessions we’ve been doing. We’ll have a few weeks off before starting up again. I made a stop at my auxiliary garage and switched out my Mustang for my Gran Torino. Then I got home to feed the pets, did some work on the computer and around the house, and then napped. I got up later to do my auditions, headed to Denny’s for food to go, and then came home to start season 6 of “Barnaby Jones” on DVD!

Friday the 12th – HOSPITAL FOR ALL??? – The hotline in my bedroom rang at 11am. It was my animation agent with an urgent audition that had to be done right away! An animated TV series cast a TV actor as their Narrator. But they needed a line change and the TV actor isn’t available. And the show is going to final mix in a few days! So did the best impression I could, but I don’t think I came very close. It always amazes me that these animated shows cast TV actors, knowing full well that their animated series is very low on their list of priorities. Just as soon as the TV actor gets a TV acting job, off they go with no regard for the animated series. If the producers would have just hired animation Voice-Over actors to start with, they would have saved themselves a lot of trouble. I hope they learn someday. I was still pretty tired so I headed back to bed until 2. I got up to head over to Floyd’s Barbershop to get a touch up on my color. Then I sped off to the post office before they closed so I could mail a few things; the leftover Hey Arnold fabric to the Palm Springs Pillow Lady, and a signed photo to a very nice girl in Russia who sent me a birthday card. I was so touched she went through all that trouble I sent her a signed Riddler pic. Sara met me for lunch at Paty’s, but once again my sinus was acting up. So I went home and grabbed a nap on the couch. One week from today it’ll all be OVER! I think my body was starting to resist the constant dosages of Mucinex, so when that happens I have to switch to Sudafed. It’s the same medication, I know. But there’s something different enough about them that my body doesn’t recognize the difference right away. Then my body will eventually get used to the Sudafed and I’ll have to switch back to Mucinex. This whole thing has been a real nightmare! When it’s over I’m going to go on a massive detox! My neighbor texted me to tell me she had to take her daughter to the emergency room, and she wanted to know if I could walk their greyhound Abby. I was glad to. I guess this must be the month for medical issues in our complex! After walking Abby I headed to bed to try and sleep through the discomfort produced by my congested skull. I got up later to clean up, do dishes, and do laundry. I made some chili, garlic bread and watched another “Barnaby Jones” episode before bed.

Saturday the 13th – AAAAAND WE’RE BACK! – Late in the afternoon I took the Torino over to the grocery store to get some supplies for that evening’s movie night. My pal and Personal Trainer Natalie Duran came over later so we could do a quick work-out, and then I got set up for movie night. Since I had been out of town two weekends straight, and then had my birthday party, we hadn’t gotten together for a movie night in quite a while. It was good to be back. We ordered in dinner from Chin Chin and everybody had a great time. I had never seen “Guardians of the Galaxy,” but since my pal Elliot Lurie’s song “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)” is used prominently in the sequel, I figured I needed to see the first one before I saw the sequel. I was the only one in the group who hadn’t seen it. I had avoided it initially because the “talking raccoon” had a very “Howard the Duck” vibe to it (in my opinion). But I’m glad I did see it, and I’m glad I waited until the sequel was out. Because instead of waiting two years to see the second volume, I would be seeing it in a matter of just a few days! I love super-hero movies that have a sense of humor, and “GOTG” was hilarious! When everyone left I grabbed a nap on the couch, and then got up to feed and walk Roxy. And of course I made my traditional Saturday night Super Salad and watched an episode of “Hee Haw” before bed. It’s always nice to hit the hay with a smile on your face!

Sunday the 14th – MARVELOUS MOM’S DAY! – Early in the morning, just before I went to bed, my friend Edi texted me to see if she could come hang out at my house. She had come to town on Saturday to enjoy movie night with the gang and see old friends. But she was staying at the house of a friend of her husband Elliot’s, and he was expecting family for Mother’s Day. So she wanted to clear out to give them their space. I told her I was going to bed, but I’d leave the door unlocked and she could make herself at home. When I got up at 3 she was in the Puppet Room relaxing with her dog Bunny. Edi was just about to go pick up her daughter Emily at her friend’s house so they could have a nice Mother’s Day lunch together. I stayed with Bunny and kept a careful eye on her. Bunny has just gone through recent back issues, and she’s not supposed to jump or leap around, or go up or down stairs. But Bunny is a teacup Maltese and is very energetic. So it’s difficult to keep her in check. I called my mom and wished her a nice Mother’s Day. I was experiencing some more pain in my left jaw, but I took a few pills and got ready for church. Roxy and I walked over for the evening church service and it was really terrific! Of course it was “Mother” themed. I had put Bunny in my kitchen with a gate up so she wouldn’t run around the house and sustain possible back injuries. But when I returned home from church with Roxy and Shirley, Edi and Emily were waiting for me outside my house. I opened the front door and Bunny was there at the front door waiting for us! How did she get out of the gate? I went to the kitchen to check it, and the gate was still in place. She either climbed over it, or squeezed through a small space between the edge of the gate the door jamb. But the space between the gate and the door was literally only a few inches. Did she liquefy? Did she doggie teleport? We couldn’t figure out how the heck she did it! But one thing’s for sure, Bunny does NOT like to be sequestered! Edi and Emily headed back to Palm Springs, and I took Shirley over to Miceli’s for a Mother’s Day dinner. Her kids were all out of town (though they HAD given her their Mother’s Day gifts before they left) so I didn’t want Shirley to be alone on Mother’s Day eve. On the drive to Miceli’s, once again, 1260 LA Oldies played “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You!” Of all the weird things! To make matters even MORE serendipitous, our waiter at Miceli’s was the guy I hired to sing at Shirley’s 90th birthday party! Ben McLain’s rendition of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” brought the house down at her party! He totally remembered Shirley and made her feel great. He’s a very cool guy! Sara and my friend Brittney Powell joined us too. I was feeling a bit out of it, but we had a nice time. I headed home to nap and then got up later to do some filing of my tax receipts, some bookkeeping and recorded a few auditions. I heated up the leftover lasagna from Miceli’s (their portions are REALLY big!) and watched another “Barnaby Jones” episode. All in all a VERY nice Mother’s Day!

And how was YOUR week??!!

PIX FROM THE WEEK

HAPPY BEEF-DAY TO YOU!
