YUM! I’m becoming addicted! I KNEW that having a Dole Whip location close to me would be a bad idea. Like a true addict, I sat outside their store for 15 minutes waiting for them to open at noon. Sad. Pathetic. I know. But BOY was that Dole Whip delicious! I came back home and waited for my ol’ pal Rob Richards to come get me so we could go to Western Costume to pick out a cape for him to rent for his shows in Hollywood. He’s the organist at the world-famous El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard and for the Halloween season he likes to wear a long, black cape when he comes up from the floor playing the huge pipe organ. We found the perfect cape, he rented it and we came back to my house so I could show him my “Wizard of Oz” busts. He gifted me with a set of collectible “Oz” plates a few months back, and I also wanted to show him how they looked hanging up on the wall in the Puppet Room. When he left I grabbed a nap on the couch, then got up to record my auditions in my home studio. After those were finished and sent, I wrote Wally’s Week and fed and walked Roxy. Then I made some dinner and watched another episode of “Magnum: p.i.” before bed.

Tuesday the 28th – CAN YOU STATION EUSTACHIAN? – It was another early morning for me, as I woke up at 10 for a session. I first stopped at Subway to grab a sandwich, knowing that I’d be working through the lunch hour. I got to Studiopolis to work on doing some voice tracks for a new anime feature film. After about 3 hours we wrapped up and I headed to It’s a Wrap in Burbank to check out their last minute sales on Halloween wardrobe. Then I went to my doctor’s office to see about some discomfort I was having in the left part of my neck…around my throat area. It wasn’t my throat, but was near it. Come to find out it was a congested Eustachian tube. So he prescribed me some Zyrtec-D to decongest it and told me to take Advil for the pain. He brought out some photos and explained to me visually how the area can get congested, especially in somebody with my allergy problems. I’m lucky to have such a great doctor! On the way home I picked up my mail at my box and found my new mannequin bust waiting for me. It had arrived a few days earlier than expected, so I dashed over to JoAnn’s Fabrics to pick up some fabric to complete my project. I’d be turning this bust into a classic Ant Man figure. A few weeks ago I got my chrome Ant Man helmet, so now I need to make him a costume. Luckily, right next to JoAnn’s Fabrics, is a pharmacy. I submitted my prescriptions, went fabric shopping, and by the time I was done my prescriptions were ready. It was really busy there as it was a last-minute Halloween rush! I found the perfect red spandex fabric for his body suit, and a beautiful sparkly black fabric for his over-armor. I got back home and walked Roxy. Then my pal Pete Tassler from “Hawaii Five-O” came over bearing some Batman gifts. We chatted for a bit as we hadn’t seen each other quite a while. I started in on the Ant Man bust. As I always do, I started to “drape and tape.” I took some brown paper bags, tore them apart and made them into flat pieces of paper, and got some blue painter’s tape. Then I set about draping the pieces of brown paper over the mannequin bust. I taped them together, and sketched out the lines of the costume on the brown paper. Then I would remove the paper, cut it to shape, and reattach it to the mannequin bust. First I made his collar, and then the shoulder and chest piece. I cut the design out of brown paper and traced it on to cardboard. Then I’d cut the cardboard pieces and try them on the mannequin. The cardboard gave me the body I needed for the over-armor. When I was satisfied with the results, I traced the modified cardboard pattern on to thin plastic. I cut that out and attached the black fabric to it with Barge glue. When the sparkly black fabric hits the lights just right it is a really nice blue/black! Then I draped and taped a pattern for the body suit. I’ll take it over to my seamstress Karyn on Wednesday and she’ll do her magic with the red fabric. Then I sat down and recorded my auditions and hit the hay. It was a very long, busy day.

Wednesday the 29th – ANOTHER INDUCTION??!! – And yes…another early morning! Traditionally I’m not a morning person, but this was proving to be a very busy week. I got up around 9, had something quick to eat, and headed to Bang! Zoom! Studios in Burbank to work on a videogame with the amazing Chris Borders. What a great guy! It was fun catching up with him. We finished up in an hour or so, so I headed to Taco Bell to get some lunch. Then it was off to Mr. Stitch in Sherman Oaks to pick up some Astonishing Ant Man patches for these red and black leather Ant Man caps I make as gifts. I grabbed a handful of candy from their Halloween candy dish and I was off to Karyn’s studio to do some work. She stitched the patches to the three red leather caps I had made into Ant Man caps, and then the fun began. She took scissors and cut off the brown paper “drape and tape” pattern I had put on the mannequin bust. Then she started laying it flat on the red fabric and cutting. It only took her about an hour to get the red bodysuit stitched to perfection! She said it really helps save time when I create the pattern myself and bring it to her for fabrication. When she had finished that, we started on the new Robin cape for the Hot Toys Burt Ward 1966 Robin figure. The manufacturer didn’t do a very good job on his cape, making it much too short. So I found some similar satin fabric to make a modified one that more closely resembled the one Burt Ward wore in the “Batman” TV series of the 60’s. She wanted to work on the cape overnight, so I agreed to come back the next day and pick it up. I came back home and got an e-mail from a guy named John Mogen in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He asked me to call him ASAP. And when I did I almost fainted. John has a band called Mogen’s Heroes and has played all over the South Dakota and tri-state area for decades. He’s also on the Board of the South Dakota Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He told me that I was being inducted into the HOF in April of 2015 for my years of work as a radio DJ in South Dakota. I couldn’t believe my ears! What an honor! First the Aberdeen Central High School Hall of Fame, and now this! Too cool! When he told me of this honor my mind immediately went to all of the people I felt were infinitely more qualified than me to receive this honor, but hey…why ruin a good thing? I was elated and thanked him profusely. I met my friend Kathylynne at the meditation service at my church. Then we headed over to Little Toni’s to grab some food with my assistant Sara. I came back home and did a little work around the house and grabbed a very short nap. It was a long day and I was exhausted. By the time I got to bed at 7am Thursday morning I had been up nearly 22 hours! I made a salad and watched another “Magnum” episode.

Thursday the 30th – FRANKENBERRY GOOOOOD! – My alarm didn’t go off until 2pm and it felt good to rest. I had been on the go for the first three days of the week and it was nice to have a day off. My pal Terry came by to do some work on the house, and I got dressed and headed to my seamstress Karyn’s studio to pick up the Robin cape. When I got back home I did some work on the computer, then fell asleep on the couch for a bit. I got up to do some auditions, and when those were finished, I headed to the store to get some groceries. Keith Carradine was standing behind me in line! Cool! (I immediately started singing “I’m Easy” in my head!) At the store, I noticed that they were all out of Pepsi One. Worse yet, there wasn’t even a hold in their display where the Pepsi One usually sat. I went to another store and…RATS! No luck! I got home and got on-line. Come to find out the Pepsi company had ceased production of the Splenda-infused Pepsi One back in June. They estimated that the supplies would be completely exhausted by the end of the year. Sure enough…it’s nowhere to be found! I LOVE Pepsi One! I can’t drink regular diet sodas because the Aspartame (Nutri-Sweet) gives me aches and pains in my legs. Not to mention that Aspartame is a neural toxin…not good! Well, I have to find a suitable alternative. But if you find any Pepsi One in your local grocer…GRAB IT! And send it to me please! This just figures. I’ve always said that anything I like usually goes away. This has happened countless times and I almost think that I’m a jinx for products. “If Wally likes it, then it needs to go away.” Oh well. I’ll live. Before bed I sat down and enjoyed a bowl of Frankenberry cereal as it was now Halloween 2014!

Friday the 31st – HAPPY HALLOWEEN ALL YOU HALLOWEENERS! – I was up at 10:30 to meet with my pals Mark Starks and Johnny Green. Mark produces the Martian motion comics that I’ve lent my voice to in the past, and Johnny Green heads the band Johnny Green and the Green Men. His band was featured in the famous “surfing” episode of the “Batman” TV series (you know…the one where Batman and the Joker had a surf-off?) We were all headed to the Comikaze convention in downtown L.A. to do a panel at 4pm. I had to come back home right after the panel was over at 5 to make a dinner appointment. I didn’t want Johnny and Mark to have to leave the convention early on my account, so I asked them to follow me to the local train station and I would take the train back to my neighborhood after the panel. That way they could stay and enjoy a few more hours of the convention. Plus, I could do my responsible environmental thing…save gas, take the train…etc. But we circled around the entire parking lot looking for a place to stash my Mustang and there wasn’t one single parking space available. Well, I tried. So they followed me back to my house, I parked my car and we all rode to the convention together. They said they didn’t mind leaving at 5pm. When we got to Comikaze we met up with my pal Mark “Mr. Awesome” Fullerton who would be moderating the panel. Normally my assistant Sara would have come along, but she had to be admitted to the hospital for an emergency dental issue. We shopped around the con for a few hours, and then headed upstairs to get ready for the panel. We had about 75-100 people at the panel and it was great fun. There were lots of aspiring voice actors and actresses who wanted to ask questions about getting into the business of voice acting. But the panel was much too short! We were just getting started, it seemed, when the guy with the 5 minute warning sign came into the room to tell us to wrap it up. After the panel I chatted with people some more, signed autographs and posed for photos. It was a lot of fun but we could have easily gone on for another hour! Then we hit the car and headed back to my house. Johnny’s GPS took us through a seedy part of L.A. as we were on the search for a freeway back home. We were a little lost. But it was an interesting look at life, especially on Halloween night. The kids ran around in their costumes snatching up candy from neighborhood houses. We made it back to my area and more kids were Trick Or Treat-ing. It made me smile, thinking about the good ol’ days of Halloweens past. I walked Roxy and fed Spook, and then we headed to Jerry’s Famous Deli so I could meet up with my old pal Dwight Walth from the Aberdeen Central High School days. Dwight played piano in my Elvis Presley tribute band in high school. He was also a fellow radio DJ at KABR 1420 AM. I hadn’t seen him in about 35 years, so we had a great time catching up. As Johnny and Mark drove me back home it started to spritz a little rain. I hurried inside and grabbed my swimsuit and headed to the Jacuzzi. I love to sit in the hot tub when it rains. I came back inside to nap on the couch for a bit, and I woke up around midnight to the sound of a heavy downpour. It was really nice hearing the rain outside, and seeing the fire burning in the fireplace. A perfect end to a wonderful week!

Saturday the 1st – DUELING DRACS! – Normally on Saturdays I like to sleep in, but I had to be up at 8:30 to let my maids in. With Sara in the hospital, I had to be there myself to let them in to clean. I got ready for my day as they worked. When they finished I put Roxy in the car and drove to my mailbox to get my mail. My Captain Kirk hoodie arrived! Just in time to wear it to the convention that day! Johnny Green and Mark Starks came by to pick me up for the convention around 11:30. I got to thinking. If there’s such a thing as a Yellow Cab, would Johnny Green’s car be considered a Green Cab? Hmmm. By the time we got to the convention just after noon all the parking spots were taken. We had to do a considerable amount of driving around to find suitable parking. But we lucked out and got parking very close to the convention, for the “low low” price of “only” $25! We got inside and met up with Mr. Awesome and my pal James from Warner Brothers. I also found my buddy Pete as well. Unfortunately Adam West had come down with the flu and wasn’t able to attend the convention. We had all hoped to see him but he was under the weather. My pal Tanya Tate the Cosplay Queen wanted to meet Julie Newmar, so we took her over to say hi to Julie. She saw us and waved her arms and beckoned us over. She wanted to get a picture of Tanya in her Catwoman costume. We chatted for a bit and had a great, but quick visit. I stopped by the autograph table to see Lynne Marie Stewart and John Paragon from “Pee Wee’s Playhouse,” which has just been released on Blu Ray. I had them sign some things and gave Lynne her dressing room name plaque from “The Tonight Show.” As they were tearing things down on the “Tonight Show” set, I noticed several recognizable names on the name plaques which adorned the hallway heading to the stage. When the performers would vacate the dressing rooms, somebody would take the name plaques off and pasted them up in the hallway. The plaques filled the hallway, top to bottom! I grabbed several good ones, and one of those was Lynne’s. I figured she might like to have that as a souvenir and she was elated to have it. A bunch of us went over to Phillippe’s in downtown L.A. to have roast beef sandwiches. We ran into a gal named Starr who was a photog for L.A. Weekly. It was fun chatting with her and her mother, and since I wouldn’t be using my convention passes any longer, I gave them to her so she and her mom could go enjoy the convention. Johnny and Mark drove me back home, I put my stuff away and got a quick nap before movie night. Since I’ve been busy the past three Saturday nights, we had to suspend our regular Saturday night movie nights. Even though Halloween was officially over, I wanted to have some sort of monsterrific viewing, so we watched Double Dracs! Two Dracula movies in tandem. First we watched the 1974 TV movie with Jack Palance. Then we watched the 1979 film with Frank Langella. Both were in Blu Ray. When my guests left it was time to breeze through Planet Wallywood and change all the clocks back to standard time. Don’t get me started on how stupid and unnecessary Daylight Savings Time is in this modern age. There oughtta be a law! Enough is enough! Won’t somebody please stand up and introduce a bill to get rid of this nuisance once and for all?! Since it was Saturday night, it was my traditional Saturday Night Saint and Salad Night. That’s when I watch an episode of the old 60’s “Saint” series with Roger Moore, and build an enormous salad. But my lettuce fixins had gone soggy…so I substituted tomato soup and a sandwich instead.

Sunday the 2nd – SMOKIN’ SUNDAY! – My pal T.J. and I met for lunch at the Studio Café. It was a nice day out, so I walked Roxy down to enjoy lunch with us. I met T.J. while working on several videogames that he wrote many years ago. Now he’s left the videogame world and is working in animated features. He needed my advice and expertise on some specific animation history. He’s working on a pitch that requires him to be familiar with these particular characters. I was happy to help out, and after lunch, I supplied him with an armload of DVDs so he could continue his research. When he left I cleaned up and headed to church with Roxy. We met my friend Kathylynne there. When church was over I came back home to clean up so we could go to dinner. My assistant Sara had just been released from the hospital so she dropped by for a little bit to catch us up on her surgeries. We enjoyed a sumptuous dinner at the world-famous Smoke House by Warner Brothers studios. After dinner I came home to relax on the couch for a short while. Then I got up to record my auditions, and feed and walk Roxy. It was a very chilly night, so I figured it would be nice to have some hot chili just before bed and watch a
“Magnum; p.i.” episode.

And how was YOUR week??!!

PIX FROM THE WEEK

Propmaker Steven Meissner made me this super cool, chrome classic Ant Man helmet!
