Monday the 14th \u2013 TEST TENTACLES! (SAY THAT FAST FIVE TIMES!) \u2013<\/span> My seamstress Maggie and her boyfriend Jeff met me at Paty\u2019s so we could discuss the creation of the Yip Yip Martian Muppet replicas we\u2019re preparing to make. Jeff brought me some test eyeballs he made, and I gave Maggie some fabric so she could cut out and finish the tentacles for the puppets. I also gave her some foam ear pieces I made for Guy Smiley (another replica Muppet we\u2019re working on with the help of Alex at Alex in Wonderland) that she will cover with fleece. When I get Guy\u2019s finished head back from Alex, Maggie will come over and permanently attach his ears, nose, and hair. Making puppets is one of my current joys in life! I came back home to do some work and get some rest. I did my nightly auditions, took my usual middle-of-the-night WOG (walk\/jog) and spent some time outside in the anti-gravity chair. It was overcast, but there was a nice cool breeze to enjoy. With the exception of a few hot days that we\u2019ll no doubt have here and there, I think that summer is probably pretty much over. I came inside to write Wally\u2019s Week and scan some checks for deposit.<\/p>\n

Tuesday the 15th \u2013 POWER RANGER PIZZA! \u2013<\/span> When I finished up at the bank making deposits in my accounts, I went to CVS to pick up some supplies, and then I hit the post office to mail some things. I went back home to clean up and get ready for tonight\u2019s \u201cSons Of The Desert\u201d meeting (the Laurel & Hardy film appreciation group I\u2019m involved with). As is our usual tradition, I met my pal Dr. Cowen at an area Italian restaurant so we could grab some pizza before the meeting. When my pal Scott Zillner held his annual \u201cPower Morphicon\u201d a few weeks ago (celebrating the Power Rangers franchise) I was unable to attend because I was in San Jose for Galaxy Con. Shortly after the convention I was contacted by email by a fan who had met 3 of the other actors who played Psycho Rangers in the series (I voice the Blue Psycho Ranger). While he was elated to get photos with 3 of the others, he was disappointed I wasn\u2019t there too. I explained that I was out of town that weekend. He asked if there was any way he could get a photo with me to complete his set. He said he lived in the L.A. area and he would travel as far as necessary to get it. I told him that I\u2019d be at the restaurant around 6, and I invited him to come by so we could get the photo then. Sure enough, at 6pm sharp, Christopher arrived at the restaurant and met us outside as we were leaving. We chatted for a while, told some stories, and got a few pictures. As a collector and as a \u201ccompletionist\u201d myself, I understand how important getting additions to one\u2019s collection is. So I was happy to oblige, and he was a really nice guy! Doc and I went to the \u201cSOTD\u201d meeting and had a great time. I picked up a new book that had just been written and released by our Grand Sheik Rick Greene. It\u2019s called Marx Advertising, and it\u2019s all about the Marx Brothers. While I\u2019m not a huge Marx Brothers fan, I bought a copy for my friend Mark who is. I\u2019ll mail it to him next week and I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll enjoy it. I went home and relaxed, and later took my nightly WOG. I also spent some time in the anti-grav chair afterwards just relaxing and enjoying the quiet night. I came back inside to do some experimentation with the Yip Yip Martian puppets, and I think I\u2019ve locked into how I\u2019m going to fabricate the head and eyes. I need to get to Hobby Lobby to get some new eye balls, though. Then I jumped into the arduous monthly task of reconciling my corporate bookkeeping. What a mess! But I finally got it all figured out. Math was never my thing! I made some lasagna and watched a few episodes of \u201cHave Gun \u2013 Will Travel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wednesday the 16th \u2013 TEXAS GUEST! \u2013<\/span> When I awoke I did some last minute cleaning around the house, and then headed to the airport to pick up my friend Brittney Powell, who would be visiting L.A. for a few days. As seems to be the condition of air travel of late, her flight was running late. (Why are the airlines having so much trouble getting their planes in on time these days? I don\u2019t think it\u2019s ever been worse!) Since she was hungry, and it was late, the only thing open was Bob\u2019s Big Boy. So we headed there to have a bite and go back to Planet Wallywood to get her settled in her room.<\/p>\n

Thursday the 17th \u2013 EDI & ELLIOT! EYES & RODS! WOOD & WATER! \u2013<\/span> My friends Edi and Elliot Lurie met Brittney and I for lunch at Paty\u2019s and we enjoyed a terrific time on the patio. Then I rushed home for a session for a TV commercial. I voiced a sports announcer, and it was the first home studio session I did on my new computer set-up. I realized though, that a few settings on my computer hadn\u2019t been set right for what I needed to do, so I\u2019m going to have to call my computer guy Thor and have them sorted out before the next home studio session happens! Brittney was tired so she napped in the Puppet Room, but I needed to hightail it over to Hobby Lobby to see about picking up some more eye pieces for the Yip Yips. The good news was, they had the right Christmas decorations I needed for eye balls. The bad news was, they were the wrong colors. I picked up what I could get, in case I couldn\u2019t ever find them in white again, grabbed some wood dowel rods and paint, and headed home to relax. One of Brittney\u2019s favorite restaurants is Wood & Water in the valley, and she wanted to go there to get some of their oysters. The restaurant seemed a little foo-foo for my tastes (and I can\u2019t stand seafood) but we went over anyway to enjoy their last hour of operation for the day. She got her oysters and her tuna platter that she likes, while I had a pretty decent steak. Then we headed back to Planet Wallywood so I could do my auditions. I threw on my workout clothes and did my nightly WOG. My time afterwards in the anti-grav chair was pleasant but CHILLY! I guess summer really IS over, though I have a hard time letting it go.<\/p>\n

Friday the 18th \u2013 BOB BAKER DAY!!! \u2013<\/span> My maids arrived just after noon to clean Planet Wallywood, and when they departed I sat down in my home studio to record some voice tracks for The Bob Baker Marionette Theatre. I\u2019m the voice of the theatre (something I\u2019m VERY proud of) and they needed some voice tracks for Bob Baker Day, which was happening at a local state park on Sunday. I wouldn\u2019t be able to physically go, because that\u2019s the day Brittney would be leaving town, and I needed to drive her to the airport for her trip. But I was happy to record whatever they needed for the event. Later I drove Brittney down to Culver City so we could have dinner with our friend Amanda at Petrelli\u2019s Famous Steaks. It\u2019s ALWAYS a pleasure to dine at Petrelli\u2019s, and I\u2019ve been doing it for 30 years or so. Then I drove Brittney to a local Hyatt Place. I cashed in some points and got her a room so she could spend the night hanging out with friends.<\/p>\n

Saturday the 19th \u2013 NEW BEST FRIENDS! \u2013<\/span> Literally just minutes before the Hyatt closed their free breakfast bar I made it in to join Brittney for a quick breakfast. Then we headed back to Planet Wallywood so she could start her day. I had a very important Zoom call to do in the early afternoon with a few new friends I made on the convention circuit. Last year I met young Riley and her parents in Houston, and they\u2019re delightful people. But when I met Sammy and her dad recently in Chicago, I KNEW that I had to connect Riley and Sammy! They are VERY similar in personality and interests. Riley\u2019s mom was kind enough to schedule a Zoom call, which was a bit of a hassle considering all three of us are in different time zones. But it all worked and we had a blast! As expected Riley and Sammy had lots to discuss, and we all ended up staying on the call for about 2 and a half hours! WOW! Great fun! I have a sneaking suspicion that those two girls will be friends for a long time. Meanwhile, Brittney and my pal Sara Raftery went down to the Melrose area to go shopping. When they returned we went to a local restaurant called The Black Market; an eatery that Brittney really wanted to visit. But when we got there we were too early! They wouldn\u2019t open yet for another hour! The internet lied again! I was starving, so I told the girls to have fun and enjoy themselves, and I took off to do errands and get something quick to eat. I got to my box just before they closed and got some packages. Then I went to Alex In Wonderland to pick up my Guy Smiley puppet head and head home. When I got there Brittney had already returned from dinner with rave reviews. I relaxed for a bit and then got up later to do my WOG. I also spent some time in the anti-grav chair. VERY nice! But I stayed up all night working with the Guy Smiley Muppet replica, and by the time I got to bed I realized I would only get a few hours\u2019 worth of sleep until I had to be up to take Brittney to the airport. EEK!<\/p>\n

Sunday the 20th \u2013 THE AIRLINES STRIKE AGAIN! \u2013<\/span> After only a few hours of sleep, I got up and headed to the airport with Brittney so she could return to Dallas. But on the way there she got a text from the airlines informing her that her flight would be delayed an hour. What is it with these airlines, and why do they have such trouble getting their airplanes in the air on time. It\u2019s an epidemic, it seems. I\u2019ve had nothing but bad luck with my flights too, of late. So we took the opportunity to hit a local Denny\u2019s to get some breakfast. She didn\u2019t get any further updates on flight delays, so we finished up our meal and headed over to the airport to drop her off. Not only was I super tired, but all of the sugary stuff I had at breakfast (syrup on my pancakes, jelly on my toast) left me feeling a bit dizzy. I cut sugar out of my diet (for the most part) many months ago, so when I have too much sugar it makes me feel weird. I honestly don\u2019t miss sugar that much! So I laid down for a bit. Later I worked on my Guy Smiley Muppet replica, but I realized that it still wasn\u2019t quite right. Although Alex and I spent a lot of time constructing the head, I realized that we may have used L200 foam that was \u00bd\u201d too thick. I believe the original was constructed out of \u00bc\u201d thick foam, and not the \u00bd\u201d thick foam that we used. Once the fleece covering went on Guy\u2019s head it didn\u2019t give us that pencil-thin, razor-sharp look I was going for. It\u2019s a gorgeous puppet, don\u2019t get me wrong, but it wasn\u2019t quite accurate to the real one. I have to discuss with Alex to see if she can alter this one to more closely resemble the original puppet, or if we should just start from scratch and build a new one. Another concern is that I don\u2019t have much of the yellow-gold fleece left, so I\u2019m hoping I would even have enough fabric left to make a new head. I still have to make his hands and arms! But Alex will have a good handle on our plan going forward. Later I took a WOG, and then I enjoyed the pleasant, quiet, warm and overcast evening in the anti-grav chair. I wanted to have a nice cigar the night before, but I realized the window to Brittney\u2019s room was open, and the smell might disturb her sleep. So I decided I\u2019d have one THIS evening before coming inside to prep for the new week, and hit the hay.<\/p>\n
