DON’T MIND IF I DO! – After a little rest and relaxation, finishing up all of my Wally’s Week entries, and recording some auditions…I headed to Taco Bell to enjoy a few more of those Enchiritos before they go away on July 22nd! YUM! Later I took my nightly WOG (walk/jog) and enjoyed some meditational time in the anti-gravity chair outside. There was a gorgeous shooting star! I came back inside to do some video editing, and called it a night.

Tuesday the 7th – I’LL KNOCK YOUR STUFFING OUT! – One of the management companies who books me for convention appearances have decided to raise our prices slightly to be competitive with others in the marketplace, so I took my Square unit over to the Celebworx offices to have it recalibrated to reflect the change. The Square unit is a little device that allows us to take credit card payments at shows, but it had all the old prices still on it. When I got home I decided I was going to tackle the arduous task of pulling some old stuffing out of a favorite comforter of mine. I’ve had this tiger-striped comforter since the 90’s (I believe) and while it’s still in pretty good shape, all of the filling inside has gotten clumpy. This happened over time as I’ve had it dry cleaned several times. The comforter wasn’t “quilted,” so that allowed the fiber filling to move around during the washing process and become clumpy. Most comforters you get these days are all quilted, meaning that there’s a seam stitched down the length of the comforter about every six inches, which prevents the inner stuffing from moving around too much. I cut a 10” incision toward the edge of the underside lining of the comforter, and pulled out every last bit of the filling by hand. Once it was all out, I stitched up the slice and it was nice and flat. No more humps and bumps! Since it’s summer, it’s the perfect comforter for this kind of weather – not being too overly heavy. I’m not a great sewer, but I do OK. I did some other random stuff around the house, recorded some auditions, took my nightly WOG, spent some time in the anti-grav chair (I love that it’s warmer at night now), and then I went inside to listen to a podcast, scan some checks for a deposit and reconciled my corporate bank statement. Next week I’m heading out of town for a convention that’s on the other side of the country, so I’m starting to make plans for that.

Wednesday the 8th – TALENT SEARCH! – When I was done submitting my deposits at my bank, I headed over to Voice Trax West to do a session for American Airlines. Then I stopped by the post office to mail off some stuff, bought a few cigars, got a sandwich at Jersey Mike’s, and headed home to eat and do some work. Later I had a TON of auditions to do. There’s a studio that’s having a “talent search” for actors who they may not be familiar with. Since I’ve never worked for this studio before, I figured I’d lay down some auditions and send them in. Fun stuff! I did my nightly WOG and anti-grav time, and then organized all of my signing pens for the upcoming convention. I made sure that all of them were primed and ready for action. Some of them were old and got tossed out. And I organized them by color into separate bags. For some reason, customers like things written in specific colors now, so I want to have a good selection of colors and tip widths for the job. I wrote up my packing list for the ConnectiCon in Hartford, CT next week, and then made a salad and watched an episode of “The High Chaparral.”

Thursday the 9th – THE FOUR 50-YEAR OLD 20-YEAR OLDS! – My pal Chris Malmin met me at Paty’s for lunch, and then I did some errands. I picked up a few things at CVS, bought some groceries, and then headed home. My assistant Emily was in the area so we decided to head to Bob’s Big Boy for dinner. After we finished we walked outside and saw four young ladies preparing to take a picture next to the Bob’s Big Boy statue. We asked if they wanted us to take the picture for them so they could all be in it. They said sure, and handed us a POLAROID CAMERA! Too cool! They said they were all college students visiting from Northern California, and even though they were all about 20 years old, they really loved vintage stuff. In addition to the Polaroid, one of the girls had a real honest-to-goodness FILM camera! I showed them my flip phone and they all loved it. I was getting the impression that these young ladies were very, very smart! Ruby, the one who we interacted with the most, was studying radio in college, and was thinking about becoming a radio DJ. I told her I did that for over 20 years before I became a Voice Actor. Then we started talking about Voice Acting and they were shocked to learn of some of the characters I did, many of which they were very familiar! Then Genevieve spoke up and said her great uncle was a DJ for many years in radio. She said, “Ever heard of Wolfman Jack?” WHAT?!!! I LOVE WOLFMAN JACK! She was the great niece of the Wolfman! WOW! I told her many great Wolfman stories from my younger years. Genevieve also mentioned that she wanted to learn to build puppets. Lindsey said she wanted to be a make-up artist, and Lila said her dad was really into “Star Trek” – the original series. They said they’d be in town until Tuesday, so I gave them my card and invited them for a tour of Planet Wallywood. Radio. Wolfman Jack. Old cameras. Puppets. Make-up. Star Trek. WOW! These kids were like my long-lost offspring! I was impressed that these young ladies knew SO much about classic entertainment. They would truly love touring Planet Wallywood! As I’ve always said, there are NO coincidences in life!

Friday the 10th – COMPUTER CRAZINESS! – A new computer system for Planet Wallywood has been in the works for over a year. The new set-up was custom built by my friend Thor, and as I’m now ready to make the switch my computer guy Brian flew in from Denver for a few days to help get it all set up. As always, though, changing over is tough. Stuff tends to get lost along the way, especially if you’re in love with a lot of vintage programs, as I am. Most of the changeover went really well, as Thor had done a lot of great set-up work. But the audio program I’ve been using for my auditions and sessions for over 20 years has become antiquated. Sony used to own Sound Forge, but then they sold it to another company, and now another company owns it. So when we tried to put the authentication key into their servers, it didn’t respond. Those servers have long been dead. So what do we do now? We had to do some research to find a suitable alternative, and we found out that Sound Forge DOES still exist, but the company who recently owned it has now sold it to ANOTHER company. Very confusing! That caused a huge snag in the system, because having a good audio recording system is of paramount importance to me. Windows 11 also doesn’t have my favorite font any longer. Not sure why. So all of my documents that I’ve written in that font is now some other font with lots of curly q’s. Annoying. Of course the old rule in life has always been, “If Wally likes it, it has to go away.” Don’t get me started. Brian and I worked about 8 hours and everything got set up pretty well. Brian said he’d check in on me on Saturday so he could remote into my system for last-minute fixes. It sure is nice not having a computer transition be so chaotic. My old system is still working fine, but it’s about 10 years old – so it’s time for an update. The last few times I’ve had to do a computer transition it’s because my old computer stopped working, so data transfer, etc. was always a pain in the neck. However, because we’ve been planning this changeover for a while, it’s a lot simpler. Brian removed the main data drive from my old computer, popped it into a drive reader, and all of the current data transferred to my new drive very easily! Sweet! I relaxed for a bit, and then went on my WOG later. I spent some time in the anti-grav chair, but it was very humid out. The rest of the night I went through my new computer system and started organizing stuff accordingly.

Saturday the 11th – A PEACEFUL, UNEASY FEELING! – It was that time of the month again…time to see my stylist Andie for a touch-up on my color. But first, a trip to the Taco Bell drive-thru for a few Enchiritos. After my hair appointment I picked up a package at my box, picked up some stuff at the dry cleaners, and then headed home to wait for Brian to call so we could work on the computer. But the afternoon sped by and he hadn’t called yet. My gal Angi was in the area so she stopped by so we could go to Chin Chin for dinner. I hadn’t seen her in a while so it was nice. Brian called later in the evening, but I was busy with other stuff, so I told him we’d need to chat sometime tomorrow. He’s going to research Sound Forge 17, the program for audio recording that’s still available, to see if it would be right for me. As I headed out for my WOG I saw my neighbors out with the beautiful little Corgi named Ruffles (so named because she’s a cute little potato!). I spotted our security guard Gwen sitting in her car. I asked if she was OK. She got out of her car and said that there were four coyotes who were standing next to her, wondering if she had any food. She got scared and got into her car. Just then I saw a rat run behind her. I said, “Oh! There’s a rat! Maybe the coyotes should have stuck around for dinner!” When I said the word “rat” the guard leapt back into her car. I apologized and told her my name was Wally and that if she needed anything I’d be around. Since it was a warm, humid Saturday night, I decided to enjoy a nice cigar during my post-WOG time in the anti-gravity chair. An Amazon driver had pulled onto the property and was driving strangely, so Gwen walked over to see what he was doing. Come to find out he was just woefully lost (that happens a lot in this huge complex). As we chatted I told her I really enjoy the quiet night-time hours, as I used to be a late-night radio DJ – so I kind of got used to those hours. We chatted some more, but just before she walked back to her post she said, “By the way. 94.7 The Wave is one of my favorite radio stations.” I said, “WHAT?!” She said she recognized my voice and name, and when she heard that I used to be a late-night radio DJ she put it all together. WOW! She remembered me from being on the radio over 30 years ago! WILD! We chatted some more and she said her son has been in the Marines for about 4 years. We had a great conversation. There truly ARE no coincidences in life! I went back inside to edit some videos, make a salad, and finish up Season One of “Night Gallery” on Blu ray!

Sunday the 12th – ON SECOND THOUGHT! – All night I was pondering my computer situation. While the new computer was pretty slick, I was really concerned about not having a suitable recording program installed yet. So I made an executive decision and texted Brian. I asked him to come over later and swap out the computer and replace it with the old system again. I think we need more time to investigate a new audio recording program that will fit my needs nicely. When we find one and install it, THEN we can put the new machine back in. Until then, I’m sticking with the tried and true method. This made me feel a LOT better about things. Later I went to Miceli’s to meet up with Ruby, Genevieve, Lindsey and Lila. We had a great dinner and then took a tour of Planet Wallywood. As expected, they loved all the puppets, special effects, vintage toys, etc. We shot videos with some of the Muppet replicas, and they took tons of pictures of some of the displays. What an amazing time. Brian came over and efficiently swapped out the computers. He said to leave the new computer plugged in, as it’s connected to Planet Wallywood’s wi-fi system and he can remote in to install the new audio program once we figure out which one we’re buying. Brilliant! So I moved Oscar the Grouch off of his trash can pedestal in the living room, and put the computer there. I just put Oscar in his trash can in the middle of the living room for the time being. Later as the young ladies and I were standing around my computer looking at various photos from my past adventures, they all let out a gasp! Then CRAASH!!! My Andy Kaufman “Heartbeeps” mannequin fell forward and knocked over several other things in the process. Including my Roger M00re James Bond figure, which thankfully had its fall broken by Oscar the Grouch in his trash can! Had I not put Oscar there in that very place a few hours earlier, the damage could have been MUCH worse! The only thing that really broke was the Golden Gun replica, which can be easily glued back together. Apparently the way the “Heartbeeps” mannequin had been mounted to the base didn’t have the right weight displacement. So it eventually fatigued and fell over. After the girls left I recalibrated the proper weight displacement for the mannequin’s leg rod, fused it together with duct tape, and put him back in place. Later I took my WOG, spent some time in the anti-grav chair, and then came back inside to do some work and do some more prep for my upcoming cross-country journey!

And how was YOUR week?!!

RANDOM PIC OF THE WEEK I love this shot of the new Laurel & Hardy figures photographed with Stan and Ollie’s original screen-used fezzes from the film “The Sons Of The Desert.” Based on this past week’s experiences, the Guess Who’s “Clap For The Wolfman” […]

[6

post-18103","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-wallysweek
["GET
