Wally,

You don’t know me, but I am CREECH, owner of the Yahoo Creature Features Group. It is a small group (571 members) of rabid horror-movie junkies!

I am writing to tell you of my immense enjoyment of your show, "Uncle Davver's Really Scary Movie Show", the pilot episode. I received the show from another horror host, Mr. Gortem Shreek from the great state of Minnesota. I collect shows from various horror hosts around the country, and was eager to see your show.

I was blown away!!! I never really saw a horror host show like yours! It was exactly as billed on the package; part MST3000, part Rocky Horror, part Laugh-In. I never enjoyed a horror show so much! Your many characters and fellow actors/actresses made the show really special (I especially enjoyed Le Freak as your main foil!) Plus, I couldn’t believe the amount of work that you put into ‘enhancing’ the movie (HORROR EXPRESS!) HORROR EXPRESS was one of my favorite, public-domain horror films, and your version of the film breathed new life into it! It was like I was seeing it for the first time! I never laughed so hard!

Everyone to whom I have played the show (including my friends and family) have all walked away very impressed! In fact, the most common question that I get about your show is, “Are there any more episodes?” Upon viewing your site, I see that the show was just a pilot. As of now, you are my favorite horror host!

Anyhow, I just wanted to send you a quick note of appreciation for all of the work that you put into the pilot episode. I had never seen anything quite like it, and most likely, never will. It will remain a treasured DVD in my vast collection of horror movies.

Thanks for the memories!

CREECH

Mr. Shreek, a fellow horror host, had this to say about the "Uncle Davver's Really Scary Movie Show" pilot... "Goll dang Brilliant!! The best show in production anywhere. A non-stop trip to the .......ZOO!!"

Here's a great review of the "Uncle Davver" pilot from "B-Movies Quarterly"

UNCLE DAVVER'S REALLY SCARY MOVIE SHOW
Comedy, 2003
67 minutes, DVD

Uncle Davver's Really Scary Movie Show; Imagine a live version of Mystery Science Theater 3000 with a theater full of moviegoers, hosted by a horror host from late night and his companion ghouls, and you'll have the Scary Movie Show, taped in all its glory. The show started as a series of private movie parties for executive producer Wally Wingert and friends; this DVD is their first attempt to take it to the masses. The movie being shown is the Lee/Cushing flick Horror Express, edited down and punctuated by a series of sketches, the whole thing coming in at a lean hour and seven minutes. Many of the jokes are awful, with puns that would make the Cryptkeeper boo, and most of the costumes (with the exception of Uncle Davver, who looks pretty darn good) are tacky, but there's a ton of goofy enthusiasm in the room, and it's hard not to enjoy yourself at least a little bit. David Naughton of American Werewolf in London fame is a special guest star who's presence seems mostly superflous - but he appears to be having a fun time, so more power to him. - Zack Handlen

Dear Wally,

I never thought it was going to be this funny. The show is wonderful.
Uncle Davver is very funny, the show is professsional and the comments
are 10 times funnier than any MST3K show!! I love the old commercials
and the audience is a scream!! I MUST have more Uncle Davver!!
Dan

Just watched it. It's great!
Kind of a combination of MST3K & The Rocky Horror
Picture Show,with a little bit of Laugh-In
thrown-in.
I hope he gets to be on a legit-station,either
locally or on cable-TV.

Mark

Uncle davver,

Just wanted to drop you a quick note and say THANK YOU for sending the group a copy of the show for all of us to see. It was just about one of the funniest shows ever! I was expecting another of those "Shlock" horror host cable access crap shows, but boy, was i wrong! The show is witty, funny, very professional and I love the Theater setting. The comments are 10 times funnier than any MST#K show i've ever seen and i loved the old commercials and the audience is a scream! Oh, i almost forgot the girls....what can i say about the girls except...OOO-LA-LA! My only concern is....WHERE DO I GET MORE UNCLE DAVVER!!!!!!! I live in Las Vegas and can't wait to get another show. The members at the Creature Features Yahoo group are some of the best you will find on the web and I thank them for sharing this great program. I am the one who made the artwork for the site and made up your advertisment for the members. Anyway, thanks again for sharing with us and it's great to have you as our "unofficial Uncle"

Take care and many , many thanks
Dan Siciliano - Las Vegas

DAN! Hey-YAAAAA!

Great "fearing" from you! Soooo glad you had fun watching the show and enjoying the "slew" of sexy ghouls! I promise, there will be MORE. IF, and only if, the public demands it! Maybe you guys and ghouls could start a letter "writhing" campaign to networks like Spike, Fox 21, Monsters HD, the Horror Channel, Comedy Central, USA and others and tell them of the internet groundswell of support that's brewing for yours truly and his nutty nitwits. If they know it has a built-in audience, those nitwits will probably go for it!

We've got some of the funniest writers and voice talent in town involved in this show, and we're just itchin' to get at it and do more shows! We have enough ideas to fill Tor Johnson's coffin! When we get a show goin', we'll definitely need internet savvy aritsts like you to maintain our "spiderweb"site. Wanna job?

Fangs again for all your support, sport!

Uncle Davver!

Dear Wally,

I laughed so hard I released the stink of hell (much to my girlfriend's dismay).

I hope you get to turn your horror host concept into a series. It was very entertaining and well put together for transistions and effects. I have begun sharing your video with my friends and coworkers. They have all given positive feedback ( 'funniest damn thing they have seen in a long time...' to quote my neighbor).

UNCLE DAVVER'S REALLY SCARY MOVIE SHOW
Location:  Taped in Los Angeles
Host / Co-Host(s):  Uncle Davver

Take THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, mix in a generous helping of BEETLEJUICE, stir in a pinch of MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000, and pour it liberally over the ‘50’s, ‘60’s, or ‘70’s B-grade Horror Film of your choice, and you’d come up with something like UNCLE DAVVER’S REALLY SCARY MOVIE SHOW.  The brainchild of actor Wally Wingert, UNCLE DAVVER’S… is a crazy, corny, cheesy look back at the days when monster matinees were more than just “going to the movies”… they were participatory events, with kids shouting out long-familiar lines of dialogue, talking back to the characters, dressing up in costumes… in short, when they were fun.

The pilot for this unsold series features a send-up of the 1973 low-budget chiller HORROR EXPRESS, starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing.  Not the duo’s best work; still, nothing featuring these two icons of Horror is ever irredeemable.  Very reminiscent of John Carpenter’s version of THE THING, it does a credible job within very tight budgetary constraints.  That is, until Uncle Davver and his host of matinee miscreants go to work on it.

Featuring such characters as Uncle Davver, Prostitutia, Zomb-E, and the Snack Hag, and with guest star David Naughton (from AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON…) along for the ride, Wingert and an audience full of his friends and relations gather to dress up, kick back, and have a ball with the movie as it plays on the big screen of Hollywood’s Silent Movie Theater.  There’s really no way to keep track of the insanity that ensues; the viewer is left to just strap in, hang on, and enjoy.

Though I’ve never attended a midnight showing of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, this must be a close facsimile.  The movie is secondary to the party that’s taking place in the aisles, and I imagine that would be the case whether it was HORROR EXPRESS, PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, or for that matter, CITIZEN KANE that was playing.  The movie’s only role is to be spoofed, which makes this rather unique among Hosted Horror shows.

While other shows may incorporate a spoof of the featured film into the interstitial segments, with UNCLE DAVVER’S… the spoof is what we’re watching… the film IS the interstitial segments.  Yes, it’s a crazy concept.  Nevertheless, it works, and works very well.

Now, I’m not a big fan of the whole MST3K concept.  While I realize that to most people, even most Horror fans, films like HORROR EXPRESS are easy targets for ridicule; they are the films I grew up watching, the films that gave birth to my love of the horror genre.  I love these movies, even with all their flaws, and don’t really enjoy seeing them ripped apart.  MST3K does that in such an insulting, nasty manner that I simply don’t care for it.  UNCLE DAVVER’S… is different.  They don’t ridicule, as much as they play along.  They’re not just shouting insults at the screen, they’re interacting with the movie in a way that’s almost a form of flattery.  Whatever it is, it’s different, and I like it.

Though UNCLE DAVVER’S is currently looking for a television home, I don’t think that search will take too much longer.  At least, I hope not.  It’s too unique a concept not to be picked up by someone, and too much fun to do without.  While I wish that I could go to Uncle Davver’s next movie night, I’d settle for being able to watch it on television.  And telling everyone to ask someone, anyone, to put this on the air.
